International Women's Day festivities will take place in the Union throughout the day on March 8

The University of Arkansas campus will celebrate International Women's Day on Friday, March 8. The celebration recognizes women who strive to make positive changes in our world, in our country and in our community.

The day is an opportunity to reflect on the achievements and contributions women have made and continue to make in our global society. The day also brings awareness to the gaps in women's rights across the world.

The community is invited to join in all the day's scheduled festivities. The main event will take place from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Arkansas Union International Connections Lounge. The event will feature inspirational speakers, performances and a global fashion show. The full itinerary for the day is as follows:

  • 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. — Women of the World Photo Gallery
Photos of University of Arkansas international and American women will be on display.
  • 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. — International Women's Day Booths
Information about women's issues around the world will be on display.
  • 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. — Thank You Note Booth
Note cards designed by a female international student-artist from Iran will be provided for you to thank faculty, staff, family and friends who inspire you.
  • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. — Flower Distribution (or until we run out)
Flowers will be distributed to women outside and inside the Arkansas Union.
  • 4-5:30 p.m. — International Women's Day program
