Slight modifications in both the Harmon Avenue Parking Garage and in the Garland Avenue Parking Garage begin Monday, Jan. 14.

The changes in Harmon simplify where drivers park, while those in Garland reduce the time in free parking spaces from 45 minutes to 30 minutes.

In Harmon levels 1-7 of the garage are set aside for motorists with Harmon parking permits, while levels 8-9 will be for metered parking.

Those who wish to park in metered spaces should not use levels 1-7, but will have full access to levels 8 and 9 and to the ramp that connects levels 8 and 9.

Signs in the garage clearly mark the designations.

Individuals with a Harmon Garage permit will not need to do anything differently, except to remember that their permits do not grant access to the top two levels.

As in the past, those who park in a metered space should pay for parking at one of the designated pay stations or with the use of the Whoosh! app.

Pay stations in the garage are located on levels 1, 2, 4, and 6.

In the Garland Avenue Parking Garage, the reduction in time allotted for free parking was requested by merchants in Garland and by the University of Arkansas Bookstore.

There are 38 such parking spaces in the area. Twenty-six of those are located in a row in the garage just a few feet from the doors of the businesses that operate there. Four spaces are on Garland Avenue in front of the businesses. Eight spaces are located on Douglas Street.

Signs are posted to clarify that the free parking in the area is for 30 minutes only.

The changes in both Harmon and Garland were first announced in December.
