CCE Offers Free Income Tax Assistance
Nicole Bavon

Next semester, the Center for Community Engagement along with the United Way NWA, Care Community Center and the accounting tax RSO Beta Alpha Psi will offer free tax return preparation on the university campus.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is a government initiative that offers free aid to taxpayers who earn less than $54,000 a year, who have disabilities or who are limited English speakers. Volunteers are IRS-certified and help qualifying persons on basic tax return filing. Individuals will need a photo ID, social security card, and their wage/earning statement. A full list of what to bring is available on the Internal Revenue Service's website.

The free consultations will be at the Wellness Center in the Garland Garage from Jan. 28 through Feb. 8 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day. Those eligible can make appointments starting on Jan. 1 through the CCE website.

Volunteer opportunities for greeters, translators and additional tax preparers (training is required for these volunteers) are also available.
