The University Libraries Special Collections department has released two new collections, the University of Arkansas Athletic Photographs and University of Arkansas Board of Trustees Records, both available for the public to view and use.

Spanning from 1904-1980, the University of Arkansas Athletics Photographs collection presents a visual history of U of A sporting events. This series consists of photographs of past teams, coaches, players and cheerleaders from a wide variety of sports, including baseball, football, basketball, golf and track and field. It also highlights important events in Arkansas athletic history, such as the construction of Barnhill Arena and the 1976 Cotton Bowl victory over the Georgia Bulldogs.

The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees Records comprises documents that were instrumental to the founding of the U of A, including minutes from board of trustee meetings, a photocopy of the deed for the land purchased for the U of A, and financial vouchers. Additionally, the collection features correspondence of individual board members and handwritten letters from the U of A’s first professors, asking for a job, such as one from English professor Ella Carnall. While the bulk of the material consists of foundational documents from the end of the 19th century, the collections also contains building contracts and other materials from the 20th century.

These are just two of Special Collections’ latest releases featuring important moments in the university’s history. The Special Collections department is committed to collecting and making available to the public such  records of enduring value. For further inquiry about these and other collections, visit the Special Collections department, located on the first floor of Mullins Library. Special Collections is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
