Supply Chain Students and Faculty Participates in CSCMP EDGE Conference
Matt Waller, dean of the Sam M. Walton College of Business, faculty from the Department of Supply Chain Management, administrators and staff from the Supply Chain Management Research Center, and supply chain doctoral candidates recently attended the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals Edge 2018 Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
Carole Shook, Ellie Falcone, Rebekah "Bekki" Brau and Jessica Darby presented academic research during two poster exhibitions. Brau, a Walton College doctoral student, received an award for Best Poster for Practical Application for her research, "When Models Meet Managers." Carole Shook, a supply chain management instructor, partnered with student Christine Tan and Maggie Mackey in research to better understand clothing warehousing and managing millennials.
Darby, a doctoral student, presented research on the "Alternative Approaches to Seeking Knowledge" in supply chain. Doctoral candidates Andrew Balthrop and Jordan Barker also presented their research. Ellie Falcone's poster discussed understanding managers' reactions to blockchain technology in supply chain. Balthrop spoke on the "Labor Market Effects of Electronic Logging Devices in Long-Haul Trucking" with peer researchers. Barker and Brau partnered on research titled "Shipping Surcharges and Logistics Disruptions."
Brian Fugate, chair of the Department of Supply Chain Management; Associate Dean Brent Williams; Marat Davletshin, senior graduate assistant; Stephanie Thomas, clinical assistant professor, and Remko Van Hoek, clinical professor, spoke to attendees on a variety of topics in the supply chain industry. Some of these included "Demystifying Blockchain for Action," "Thought Leadership Perspectives on the Future of Supply Chain Education Programs" and "Women and Diversity in Logistics." John Kent, clinical assistant professor, and Falcone presented reports from the 2018 China Logistics Insights Report.
Waller was joined by Dan Worrell, chair of the Department of Management, and professors Brent Williams and Brian Fugate on a High Impact Dean's Panel with faculty and industry providing thought leadership on the future of supply chain education programs.
Walton College supply chain students Kyle Decker and Nick Foster served as event volunteers, networked with potential employers and assisted in behind-the-scenes operations for the conference. Supply chain student Monica Sewell attended an award reception celebrating the recipients of the AWESOME Excellence in Education Scholarship Award.
The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals is an international organization that hosts an annual conference consisting of academic research, doctoral candidate assistance, professional networking and education experiences. CSCMP is dedicated to connecting and educating their members and partners around the world.
