Applications are now open for the new faculty-led study abroad international business seminar in Israel.

The program will take place during the May 2019 intersession. University of Arkansas students participating in the program will learn about the importance of technological progress as a component of economic growth.

Israel is consistently the global leader in the percentage of gross domestic product going to research and development. Students will learn the aspects unique to Israel that contribute to its success in developing new technologies and cultivating new businesses. While the program has a business focus, it is open to all University of Arkansas students.

"I am excited to get to lead this trip to experience the characteristics of Israel that make it so conducive to innovation," said Julie Trivitt, faculty trip leader and clinical associate professor in the Department of Economics at the Sam M. Walton College of Business. "We'll take a few days to study them theoretically, and then spend 10 days in Israel meeting entrepreneurs, talking to policy makers and seeing many of the can't miss sights in Israel as we experience the start-up culture."

The anticipated travel dates for the seminar are May 19-28, 2019.

While in Israel, students will have the opportunity to work out with the Israeli Defense Forces in training, visit the Bell Ofri Ein Nashot Art Gallery and Winery, enjoy the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and Dead Sea, tour Jerusalem and meet with executives running business incubators for technology companies.

Costs include a $500 program fee, three hours of tuition, airfare and personal expenses.

For those interested in learning more, meeting the faculty leader and asking questions, there will be an information session on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in WCOB 241.
