The 2018 Family of the Year is the McGee Family of Conway, nominated by Dana McGee, a senior political science and criminal justice major. The family will be honored during Family Weekend at the Arkansas vs. North Texas game on Saturday, Sept. 15. The family will be presented with an award on the field, tickets to the game, as well as the Hog Wild Package that includes entrance into various Family Weekend events. In addition, the ASG executive officers will host the family for a meal at a local Fayetteville restaurant.

"The Associated Student Government is thrilled to present the McGee Family as the 2018 Razorback Family of the Year," said Abigail Walker, ASG vice president. "The McGee family is the picture of service within the Razorback community. I have been so inspired by their dedication to their University and to Arkansas. They are very deserving of this honor."

Dana McGee is the vice president of the National Panhellenic Council, an associate justice in Associated Student Government, and the treasurer of her sorority Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Additionally, she has served as a Dream Big Mentor with the Volunteer Action Center and a R.O.C.K. Camp Mentor. She attributes her love for the university to her family as well as to her own personal experiences.

Her father, Darryl McGee, was formerly the associate dean of students at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and currently serves as vice president of Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. He conducts leadership trainings and conferences. He is deacon at Greater Pleasant Branch Church in Conway and is an active member in the mass choir. "His commitment to others, the church, his students, and our family is unconditional," Dana noted.

Her mother, Angela McGee, has been a teacher for over 30 years and has dedicated her life to community service. She is the coordinator of the Greater Pleasant Branch Food Bank. She has served the community for over 15 years, providing food to people who need assistance. She spends almost every day working on the food bank and preparing food for distribution. Under her leadership, the food bank not only passes out food boxes, but also serves meals to the entire community.

Dana's brother Gary formerly served in the United States Navy and is now a police officer in Little Rock. Her sister Kara is an elementary school teacher. She also serves her community a leader in the youth ministry.

"One of my family's mottos is, 'Actions speak louder than words,'" Dana McGee said. "I am the youngest in the family and have been inspired by every single one of them." The McGees are members of the Razorback Foundation and have attended multiple family weekends and homecomings.

The Associated Student Government and Parent & Family Programs sponsor the annual Razorback Family of the Year. The Family of the Year represents the university as the model Razorback family. The model Razorback family exemplifies the Arkansas spirit and provides exceptional support for their students to succeed at the university. The difficult selection of the Honorary Family was tasked to a committee consisting of student leaders and staff from the Associated Student Government, New Student and Family Programs, and the Arkansas Alumni Association.
