FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – More than 350 students and their families recently visited the University of Arkansas to participate in Razorback 101, an open-house event hosted by the Office of Admissions. During Razorback 101, students from across Arkansas and the surrounding states enjoyed the chance to tour campus, visit with representatives from the academic colleges, and learn more about opportunities available at the U of A.

“Preview days like Razorback 101 provide a quick way for students and their families to get a feel for the campus, to meet advisors and faculty, to learn more about scholarships and financial aid, to ask questions and to connect with current students,” said Suzanne McCray, vice provost for enrollment and dean of admissions.  “We love to welcome students to campus at these events because we know when they visit they will be able to see themselves as future students on our campus.”

Students and their families began Razorback 101 with a welcome from Dean McCray before hearing more from the Office of Admissions, Scholarships and Financial Aid, the Honors College and each of the academic colleges.

For many students, Razorback 101 offers a fresh look at a campus many have known, in one way or another, for years. The event gives students the chance to learn more about the admission process, the scholarship application process, and ways to get involved on campus. They also enjoy a walking tour of campus guided by a current student and a meal in a campus dining hall. The Office of Academic Scholarships offers a session on applying for scholarships and financial aid. Students and families end their day with a tour of campus housing.

“Razorback 101 is a great time for upcoming high school seniors to get an early start on the college admission process and to start exploring the opportunities and support they have waiting for them at the University of Arkansas,” said Matt Hargis, senior associate director of admission. “It’s our hope that students leave Razorback 101 with everything they need to begin applying for admission and scholarships.”

The Office of Admissions partners with the academic colleges to offer a series of open house events throughout the year, including Razorback Impact and Ready Razorback, in addition to Razorback 101. For interested students who were unable to attend Razorback 101, the next campus open house is Razorback Reveal, happening on September 22. Students interested in attending can learn more online.
