Join the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and SciencesUniversity Libraries and Fulbright Scholars at the University of Arkansas as together we celebrate the 113th anniversary of the birth of Senator J. William Fulbright on Monday, April 9.

This year's celebration will include the Fulbright Scholars meeting and greeting the university community and handing out cupcakes in the Connections Lounge of Arkansas Union between 11 am. and noon on Monday.

The University Libraries Special Collections department will also provide a display with a sample of materials from the J. William Fulbright Papers archive. Additional materials can be viewed on the first floor of the David W. Mullins Library.

Additionally, a digital component of this special collection of the J. William Fulbright Papers is accessible online.

Fulbright College will also be featuring fun facts about Sen. Fulbright on social media throughout the day - for example, did you know that he is a former Razorback football player?

Learn more and follow along on the college's FacebookTwitter and Instagram pages and share the Fulbright facts that you like best.

The college began the tradition of commemorating the birthday of the former university president and United States senator in 2012. Senator Fulbright is a fitting namesake for the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, as he believed and the college has adopted as its mission:

"… [that] the highest function of higher education is the teaching of things in perspective, toward the purposes of enriching the life of the individual, cultivating the free and inquiring mind, and advancing the effort to bring reason, justice, and humanity into the relations of men and nations."

The college that bears his name is the largest and most academically diverse unit on campus with 19 departments and 43 academic programs and research centers. It also provides the core curriculum for all U of A students.
