Two UA Trumpet Students Named Competition Winners by International Trumpet Guild

UA Trumpet Studio members Jade Carr and Payton McCartney, juniors in associate professor Richard Rulli's studio in the J. William Fulbrihgt College of Arts and SciencesDepartment of Music, have been named winners in the 2018 International Trumpet Guild Conference Scholarship Competition.

Both students submitted recordings of repertoire including "Caprice" by Joseph Turrin and "Du Style" by Theo Charlier to the panel of judges. Carr and McCartney were selected among a large international pool of applicants. Each will receive a $250 cash award and waiver of the nternational Trumpet Guild Conference fee, as well as recognition at the conference banquet. This year's guild conference will be held May 29 - June 2 in San Antonio, Texas.

Jade Carr is a junior music education major from Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She is currently principal trumpet of the UA Symphony Orchestra and a member of the UA Wind Ensemble. She has also performed in the UA Trumpet Ensemble and the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra. Carr also won the 2017 ITG Conference Scholarship Competition.

Payton McCartney is a junior music education major from Springdale. He is currently principal trumpet of the UA Wind Ensemble and has also performed in the UA Trumpet Ensemble and the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra.
