Voice Students Show Well at State Competition

UA Voice Students and Faculty at NATS Conference

This past weekend students and faculty from the Department of Music attended the National Association of Teachers of Singing state conference, hosted by the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. The competition saw 196 entrants from across the state, including 13 U of A students, who performed in the annual Student Auditions. With some students competing in multiple categories, the following students won or placed in their respective categories:

  • Dekarius Dawson: 3rd place – Sophomore Men (student of Christopher MacRae)
  • Hannah Rodriguez: 1st place – Junior Women (student of Moon-Sook Park)
  • Tori Rudolph: 2nd place (tie) – Junior Women (student of David Malis)
  • Kyle Forehand: 1st place – Senior Men (student of David Malis)
  • Jordan Brown: 3rd place – Senior Men (student of Christopher MacRae)
  • Siyu Lou: 1st place – Older Advanced Women (student of Moon-Sook Park)
  • Dennese Adkins: 2nd place (tie) – Older Advanced Women (student of Moon-Sook Park)
  • Jordan Brown: 1st place – Hall Johnson Spiritual (student of Christopher MacRae)
  • Dekarius Dawson: 2nd place – Hall Johnson Spiritual (student of Christopher MacRae)
  • Anthony Dutton: 2nd place – Younger Student Adult (student of Christopher MacRae)

Special thanks go to instructor S. Michael Shuman for accompanying all singers on the piano and to Ronda Mains for her continued support of the Voice Area's activities and participation in regional and national events.

The NATS Southern Region Conference will take place Nov. 8-10 at Northwestern State University in Nachitoches, Louisiana.
