Adjoa Boateng

Adjoa Boateng, a widely recognized Ghanaian micro-insurance entrepreneur, will present "Social Entrepreneurship as a Vehicle for Social Change" at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, in Willard J. Walker Hall room 403. This free public lecture will be followed by a reception and light refreshments at 7:00 p.m.  Boateng is the regional director for MicroEnsure, a global, U.K.-based company that is bringing affordable insurance to millions of Africans, a historically underinsured population. Boateng manages Ghana and Malawi for the firm, which was founded by Richard Leftley.

Through the lens of her personal experience as an entrepreneur and prior experience as an executive in her family's palm oil business, Boateng will explore how business solutions can be viable vehicles for addressing social problems. She will speak about how MicroEnsure's transition from an NGO to a for-profit business allowed the company to scale its business and provide services for greater numbers of people.

Boateng's lecture is part of a Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by the Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Walton College. To register, visit the Eventbrite page
