Head of Playwriting's Work Featured at Arkansas New Play Festival

There will be a staged reading workshop of the new play Transatlantic at TheatreSquared this week, as a part of Arkansas New Play Festival. The play is a comedy by John Walch, assistant professor and head of playwriting for the Department of Theatre in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

The play also features Amy Herzberg, head of acting and distinguished professor, and M.F.A. graduate acting students Halley Mayo and Grant Hockenbrough. Assistant professor Jason Burrow is the music director for the workshop. 

Transatlantic will be performed Thursday, June 22 and Friday, June 23. Both performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will take place at TheatreSquared in downtown Fayetteville. For tickets and other information, please visit arkansasnewplayfest.com/transatlantic

Also featured at the Arkansas New Play Festival are staged readings of new works by notable writers: Lisa D'Amour, Rick Ehrstin, Mona Mansour, and Barbara Hammond, all of whom will be in residence developing their plays.

Barbara Hammond's play was the winner of the Department of Theatre's 2017 Kernodle Award. Mona Mansour will also be teaching a free public workshop on Friday, June 24 at 3 p.m. at the Fayetteville Public Library.
