UAPD fundRazor Event Today: "Dunk a Cop!" Hopes to Make a Splash for K9s

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Police Department is holding a fundraiser — “Dunk a Cop!” — to benefit its K9 division. K9 officers Dingo, Orry, Leah and Oakley and their handlers will bring a dunk tank to the Arkansas Union Mall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, and everyone who makes a donation will get a chance to dunk a UAPD officer.

The UAPD K-9 division plays and active role in keeping students, faculty, staff — and fans — safe on campus. In addition to their regular patrol duties, Dingo, Orry, Leah and Oakley and their handlers provide standard explosives security and narcotics detection for the U of A. Federal mandate requires that the “bomb dogs” sweep every Razorback sports venue prior to every event.

The K9 division is also called on to provide support and training for other police and sheriff departments across the region, and they have been called into duty at nearly every K-12 school in Northwest Arkansas.

The cost of running a K9 Unit can add up, since it requires specialized veterinarians, specialized food and specialized equipment. To help offset these costs, UAPD is turning to the U of A crowd-funding site, fundRazor to support this event, with the goal of raising $9,000 — $9K for the K9s.

Anyone who can’t make a donation can still contribute by liking or sharing the event from the fundRazor page to help spread the word.
