Honors College Recognizes Outstanding UA Staff

The University of Arkansas Honors College is recognizing three staff members for their contribution to the mission of the Honors College and to the success and satisfaction of honors students. Susan Anders, Charlotte Huffman, and Laura Moix are the recipients of the 2017 Honors College Outstanding Staff Award.

These individuals support the Honors College by working within their own areas, exhibiting consistent evidence of qualities and practices that promote community and lead to a positive and lasting experience for honors students. Selections were based on characteristics that include academic advocacy, collaboration, community and inclusion, and innovation.

"Susan Anders, Charlotte Huffman, and Laura Moix have established themselves as essential players in the lives of our students and have enhanced the academic ambitions of many undergraduates at the University," according to dean Lynda Coon. "Their dedication to our community—staff, faculty, students, and parents—is stellar.  We owe a great deal to their collective efforts."

The recipients will be recognized on April 11 at the Honors College Staff Awards reception in the University House, and each will receive a professional development stipend. 

As the assistant director of the Global Engagement Office in the Walton College of Business, Susan Anders is responsible for promoting study abroad and other international programs, coordinating international scholarship applications and funds, tracking student participation in study abroad, and assisting faculty with the development and implementation of study abroad programs and global leadership efforts.  Student participation in study abroad has tripled since Susan assumed leadership in Global Engagement. 

Charlotte Huffman from University Housing is the service assistant for Hotz Honors Hall, where she is the contact for maintenance, housekeeping, lock changes, special event set-ups, construction, renovation and safety & security concerns in the building.  She has been with the honors community in Hotz Honors Hall since 2013, and enjoys serving as an ambassador of Hotz by welcoming prospective students and families as they walk into the building for the first time.

Laura Moix serves as the assistant director of communications, student exchange and diversity for the Office of Study Abroad. Laura received a Fulbright ETA to Germany following her undergraduate degree, where she taught English in Mainz before returning to the U of A and completing graduate work in German.

Each year the Honors College awards up to 90 freshman fellowships that provide $70,000 over four years, and more than $1 million in undergraduate research and study abroad grants.
