Department of Theatre Ends its Season with a Political Bang!
The Department of Theatre in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will finish out its 2016-17 season with the musical Assassins, which opens Friday, April 14.
Winner of five Tony awards, Assassins tells the story of 10 men and women throughout history who attempted to assassinate United States presidents (some successfully, some not). It was written by Stephen Sondheim (Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd) and John Weidman (Anything Goes, Contact).
Amy Herzberg, Distinguished Professor of theatre in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, directs a cast of undergraduate and master of fine arts students in this dark, yet surprisingly funny, show. This is the second time the Department of Theatre has produced Assassins. The previous performance was in April of 2002.
Assassins opens Friday, April 14. It will be performed at the University Theatre in the Fine Arts Center on campus. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Additional performances are April 15 and 19-22 at 7:30 p.m., and April 16 and 23 at 2 p.m. This will be the department's last production of the academic year.
Ticket prices are $20 for adults; $16 for faculty, staff and seniors; and $5 for students and children under the age of 18. University of Arkansas students may attend the show free Wednesday and Thursday, or for $5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The box office accepts cash, checks, Visa and Mastercard. Discover and American Express may also be used for online purchases only.
Tickets are available online at theatre.uark.edu or at the box office in the Fine Arts Center 90 minutes prior to each performance. For questions, please call (479) 575-4752.
Parking is available in the Stadium Drive Parking Facility and is free after 8 p.m. Entrance to the parking facility is on Stadium Drive, and the facility's elevator will take patrons to street level directly across from the Fine Arts Center.
