Students Asked to Fill Out Online Survey on U of A Campus Climate

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas is asking all currently enrolled students to take part in a confidential online survey to measure attitudes, perspectives and experiences about sexual assault and sexual misconduct on campus.

The campus climate survey has been prepared and is being administered by the Office of the Title IX Coordinator.  All currently enrolled students are receiving emails from Title IX coordinator Tyler Farrar explaining the purpose of the survey, providing a link to it, and encouraging them to take part. Students can complete the 30-minute survey any time between Feb. 21 and March 10.

“The White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault described campus climate surveys as an invaluable tool for crafting solutions to the prevention of sexual assault on college campuses,” said Farrar. “The U of A is conducting this survey as a way to measure campus perceptions and provide the specific information we need to develop ways to prevent and respond to incidents of campus sexual assault and violence.”

The survey is designed to help identify areas of concern on campus, such as identifying student populations most at risk for sexual assault, determining if there are campus environments that students perceive as hostile, finding out whether students feel comfortable reporting incidents of sexual assault to school officials, and revealing how much students know about campus resources for victims of sexual assault.   

“Significant participation in the campus climate survey is very important,” said Farrar. “The more information we get from students, the better we can address these problems. Students who fill out the survey will be providing critical insights to help protect and support all University of Arkansas students.”

The survey is entirely voluntary. Students are anonymous, although the results of the survey may be available. Students who do take part will have the option of filling out a separate questionnaire to enter a drawing for a $50 gift card to the University of Arkansas Campus Bookstore.
