Public Invited to Feb. 2 Open House of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arkansas invites the public to its annual spring open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Bella Vista room of the Chancellor Hotel, 70 N. East Ave. in Fayetteville.
"It is a very exciting time to be a part of OLLI as we look ahead to the institute's 10th anniversary at the U of A in 2017," said director Josh Raney. "OLLI is not only a vital part of the university in carrying out its mission but our community as well by providing a valuable and needed service that more people want to engage in. I invite members of the U of A community and residents of Northwest Arkansas to attend our open house and learn about opportunities to expand their knowledge and grow interest. There will be hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, entertainment and door prizes."
Free parking is available in the city parking deck behind the hotel.
"Whether you join as a member, attend courses and events, or propose a class to teach, I encourage you to join us in promoting lifelong learning in Northwest Arkansas," Raney said.
The curriculum committee has developed more than 60 courses for the spring schedule that range in a variety of topics.
The spring semester offers a number of courses to aspiring authors or hobby writers, such as "Short Story Writing." For the adventurer, there is a series of hikes that lead to beautiful waterfalls. On the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, embark on a journey through its history and discover the impact it still has today. Learn from university faculty in courses such as "Native American Law," "The Basics of Cannabis," "Craft Feature Writing," or "The Homelessness in NWA." OLLI also offers monthly social outings and special events. More information is available at the open house and on the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute website.
