Eighteen current and former Razorbacks are headed to Rio de Janeiro to compete in the 2016 Olympiad.

Jarrion Lawson got the ball rolling for the Razorbacks during the U.S. national trials, placing second in the long jump with an enormous leap of 8.58 meters (28 feet, 1 3/4 inches), enough to qualify him for the U.S. team.

In the 800-meter final, Chrishuna Williams' star shined through. She battled through an obstacle-ridden 800 final to place third and punch her ticket to Rio de Janeiro. Running in lane seven, Williams stayed with the tight pack in sixth position as they came into the final turn. She slipped to seventh with 200 meters to go and took the turn wide, avoiding a collision between two other runners. In the homestretch, Williams passed several competitors to place third and earn a spot on Team USA. Her time of 1 minute, 59.59 seconds was a new personal best.

Alumna Sandi Morris and Razorback Lexi Weeks finished No. 2 and 3, respectively, in the pole vault and will compete for the United States. They worked to get the necessary preliminary vaults during a rainy qualifying round on the final Saturday of the U.S. trials to make it to the finals Sunday and then cleared 4.75 and 4.70 meters to win their tickets to Rio.

Taylor Ellis-Watson ran fourth in the 400-meter race, and although she didn't qualify for the 400, her sub-51-second times made her the pick for the fourth member of the U.S. 4x400 relay team.

Former Razorback Tyson Gay, among the top male sprinters for the last decade, finished high enough in the 100 and 200 to qualify for the U.S. 4x100 team.

Four former Razorbacks qualified for the Jamaican team:

• Former Razorback Veronica Campbell-Brown, the dominant female sprinter of the past decade, qualified for her fifth Olympics representing the Jamaican team. The gold medalist qualifed in the 200 and will likely be part of the Jamaican 4x100 relay.

• Former Razorback Omar McLeod qualified for the Jamaican men's team in the 110-meter hurdles and will be competing at the 2016 Olympics for his first time.

• Clive Pullen qualified in the triple-jump.

• Kemoy Campbell placed first in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 13:43.21.

Dominique Scott-Efurd, who just finished her college career winning two NCAA outdoor races, ran qualifying times in the 10,000 meter run that should gain her a spot on the South African team.

David Lingmerth, a former Razorback and current PGA Tour professional, qualified to represent his home country of Sweden in men's golf, a sport not played in the Olympics since 1904. Lingmerth is ranked 14th among the 60 golfers lined up for the Olympics.

Similarly, former Razorbacks Stacy Lewis and Gabriela Lopez will represent their respective countries, the United States and Mexico, at the Olympics in women's golf.
