KUAF to Add Diane Rehm Show, Adjust Week Day Program Schedule

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — KUAF 91.3FM, the University of Arkansas National Public Radio affiliate, will expand its daily news programming beginning Monday, July 4. The Diane Rehm Show, a staple of NPR stations around the country, will join the  KUAF mid-morning weekday schedule, giving listeners an “All News-All Day” programming lineup each weekday. In addition to The Diane Rehm Show, the KUAF program schedule will continue to include NPR’s popular news magazines Morning Edition and All Things Considered as well as Fresh Air with Terry Gross, Here and Now and KUAF’s news magazine Ozarks at Large at noon.

“It’s become more and more important for NPR stations around the country to expand public service programming with the fact-based news that NPR and local stations are known for. There is a clear void and public radio stations have a mandate to fill that void,” said KUAF station manager Rick Stockdell.

The new schedule will start with Morning Edition from 5-9 a.m., followed by The Diane Rehm Show from 9-11 a.m. A live broadcast of Fresh Air with Terry Gross will air at 11 a.m., followed by Ozarks at Large at noon, Here and Now from 1-3 p.m. and All Things Considered from 3-6 p.m. Fresh Air with Terry Gross and Ozarks at Large will rebroadcast from 6-8 p.m.

The “All Classical-All Night” format will begin with KUAF’s popular local classical music program Of Note with Katy Henriksen, which is moving to a new time slot and expanding from one to two hours. The show will air Sunday through Thursday evenings from 8-10 p.m. and will continue to feature a mix of new classical recordings featuring artists from around the world. The expanded program will give Henriksen more time for interviews with area musicians and artists and to play more pieces recorded at KUAF in the Firmin-Garner Performance Studio.

Of Note will be followed by “Classical Through the Night” with Peter Van DeGraf from 10 p.m.-5 a.m.

Classical music can still be heard 24 hours a day on KUAF 2, available online or on an HD radio.

Friday nights will continue to feature “classic” blues and jazz music with the popular shows Beale Street Caravan, The Generic Blues Show, and Shades of Jazz from 8 p.m. until midnight, when classical programming continues.

THE DIANE REHM SHOW

The Diane Rehm Show features thoughtful and lively conversations between host Diane Rehm and many of the world’s most distinguished people. The Peabody Award-winning program is known for civil discourse and deep conversations about the issues of the day with listeners as part of the conversation. The program is broadcast on nearly 200 NPR stations around the U.S. The show is produced by NPR and Washington, DC-based public radio station WAMU.

Recent guests on The Diane Rehm Show have included former President Jimmy Carter, former Justice Sandra Day-O’Connor, Sen. John McCain, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Julie Andrews and Toni Morrison. Each hour includes dialogue with listeners who call, email, tweet or post to Facebook to engage in a civil exchange of ideas.

The most popular segment of program is the “Friday News Roundup.” Each Friday, Diane and a panel of journalists offer analysis of the week's top news. The first hour of the show is devoted to the week's top domestic news and second hour focuses on the top international stories.

KUAF is licensed to the University of Arkansas and operates as a public service and community outreach program. The station serves a 14-county area of west and northwest Arkansas with nearly 50,000 people a week tuning into the station.
