Razorback License Plates Provide Scholarships to Arkansas Students

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Hog Tags program has provided scholarships to more than 2,200 students totaling $4.8 million in value for students who have attended the University of Arkansas since the program’s launch in 1994.

The Hog Tags program allows anyone in Arkansas, Missouri, Texas or Tennessee to request a special Razorback license plate when registering a motor vehicle with the Arkansas Department of Motor Vehicles. For each Arkansas license, $25 from the fee goes to support the Alumni Association's merit scholars.

Through promotion and marketing by the Arkansas Alumni Association, the number of Hog Tags on the road has continually grown each year. As of 2015 more than 32,910 Hog Tags are displayed on cars and trucks, a nearly 10 percent increase since 2013.

"The Hog Tag program produces a big win for all parties," said Brandy Cox, associate vice chancellor for alumni and executive director for the Arkansas Alumni Association. "Drivers across the state have a way to support the University of Arkansas and show their Razorback spirit. Everywhere they drive, they spread recognition of the university, and our students benefit by receiving help to keep their college education affordable.

“This program is so successful because of our dedicated alumni, board of directors, and staff throughout the years,” Cox said. “It is because of this program that we are able to offer the most qualified, creative and motivated students a chance to attend the University of Arkansas."

Students who have benefited from the Hog Tags program continually express their gratitude to the Alumni Association for the help that the scholarships provide them and their families.

“I was awarded a ‘Roads Scholarship,’ awarding me $2,500 each year I am in school at the university,” said Blake Griffin, a junior from Mountain Home. “Through this, I found out about the Student Alumni Association, and ultimately the Student Alumni Board in which I have become heavily involved! I started as a Homecoming Committee member, then was the Homecoming director for SAB in 2015. This December, I was recently selected to serve as the president of the entire Student Alumni Board, and I couldn't be more excited! When the Alumni Association gives these generous scholarships to students, it inspires them to not only study hard, but to serve the University of Arkansas in any way that they can!”
