University of Texas Professor to Give Talk Dec. 16 on Mitochondria Research

Michael Wiggs, assistant professor of kinesiology at the University of Texas at Tyler, will present a seminar at 3 p.m. Dec. 16 on the University of Arkansas campus about his research into mitochondrial function.

The seminar is free and open to the public. It will take place in room 413 of the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science, 1260 W. Maple St.

Wiggs' presentation is titled "The Role of Mitochondria in the Regulation of Muscle Size." He studies exercise physiology and skeletal muscle physiology and is an expert in the assessment of muscle protein synthesis and mitochondrial function and ROS (reactive oxygen species) emission with particular emphases in conditions of muscle wasting and growth.

The seminar is presented by the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation in the College of Education and Health Professions.
