Third Chancellor Candidate, Jeffrey Vitter, to Hold Public Forum

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Jeffrey S. Vitter, the third of three candidates for the position of University of Arkansas chancellor, will hold an open public forum at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center.

The Faulkner Center is located on Garland Avenue, between Silas Hunt Hall and the Arkansas Union. Please note that food and beverages are not permitted in the auditorium.

Vitter is the provost and executive vice chancellor and the Roy A. Roberts Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas. He will make a presentation on the subject Moving the Needle: Thoughts on taking the University of Arkansas into the future. He will take questions from the audience following the presentation.

Vitter’s forum will be videotaped and it will be available online Thursday afternoon. Viewers will need to use their U of A email and password to access the video.

In his role as KU provost, Vitter oversees the university strategic plan, Bold Aspirations, which focuses on four areas: energizing undergraduate education, elevating doctoral education, driving discovery and innovation and engaging scholarship for public impact.

Before coming to KU, Vitter held a similar post at Texas A&M University. He previously served as the Frederick L. Hovde Dean of the College of Science and Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University. He held a distinguished professorship at Duke University and served at Duke as chair of the Department of Computer Science. He earlier taught and held leadership roles at Brown University.

Vitter earned a B.S. degree with highest honors in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame, a doctorate in computer science from Stanford University, and an M.B.A. from Duke University. He is originally from New Orleans.
