One Act Plays Address Immigration Issues, Open Discussion

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas Theatre Department and the Classical Edge Theatre Company are collaborating to present two brief one-act plays about issues related to immigration, as a part of the U of A’s One Book, One Community project. 

A Mule in JFK by Keith Glover and Famous Ali by Robert Clyman will be performed at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. through Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Global Campus Auditorium, 2 Center Street, on the Fayetteville Square. 

The event is free and the public is welcome. A talk-back session will be held at the conclusion of each performance.  

Stephen Pigman directs the cast of U of A undergraduate actors:  Jake Dirksen, Tucker Partridge, Tyla Gibson, Trey Smith, and Jacob Hook. Katie Heath is the stage manager and Shawn Irish is the lighting and set designer.

The One Book, One Community selection for 2015 is Outcasts United:  An American Town, a Refugee Team, and One Woman’s Quest to Make a Difference by Warren St. John.  Outcasts United is the story of a refugee soccer team, a remarkable woman coach, and a small southern town turned upside down by the process of refugee resettlement. 

St. John will give a public lecture and sign books from 6:30 to 8:30 on Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Donald W. Reynolds Auditorium on the University of Arkansas campus.
