FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Printed copies of the new edition of Discovery, the undergraduate student research journal of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences, are currently available in the college's departmental offices. Discovery magazine is also available online. This edition is Volume 16 of the annual journal.

Under the guidance of University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture research faculty mentors, student authors convert the results of their research into articles. Students who have received a Bumpers College Undergraduate Research Grant are expected to submit a paper based on their project.

There is a strong showing in this issue from the School of Human and Environmental Sciences with articles on food policy, breakfast nutrition, destination marketing, childhood obesity, and apparel packaging.

This issue also features many papers of an environmental/sustainability theme. These include research on ecological restoration and habitat assessment, as well as compost processing and quality. Other studies in this area include aquatic nutrient competition and earthworm impacts in wheat and soybean production. Unique reports are also found on experiences of farmer's market families and hunger relief/food donation program missions. Two studies in Animal Science include a report on tall fescue intake and digestibility and one evaluating bull sperm motility responses. To round the issue out, a report from Food Science shares results on chocolate paste production and characterization.

"We are proud to showcase their work in the Discovery journal and promote their abilities as leaders, innovators, policy makers, and entrepreneurs, making them first-choice candidates of prospective employers," said Michael Vayda, dean of Bumpers College.

Mary Savin, professor of crop, soil, and environmental sciences, is faculty editor of Discovery. Gail Halleck, a publications editor in the Division of Agriculture Communication Services unit, is the journal's managing editor.

Information about submitting manuscripts for the 2016 edition is at discoverymag.uark.edu.
