Music Department Adds Conductor, Clinician, Adjudicator to Faculty
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jeffrey Murdock has become the newest edition to the Department of Music faculty in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. He comes to the University of Arkansas as an assistant professor from the University of Memphis where he was an adjunct professor of music.
Murdock is known regionally, nationally and internationally as a conductor, clinician and adjudicator. He has produced and performed in multiple international and domestic tours and has conducted the Millington Chorale at Carnegie Hall and Grammy Award-winning artists Mary Mary and Donnie McClurkin in performances with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
"I am excited to be part of the University of Arkansas and the Department of Music," Murdock said. "I look forward to helping students explore the depths of their musical gifts."
His research interests include cultural hegemony in choral music education, music education in urban schools and the use of gospel music in education.
"Dr. Murdock is a talented musician and conductor," said Ronda Mains, department chair. "His passion for music education makes him an invaluable addition to our team."
Murdock is affiliated with the American Choral Director's Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Tennessee Music Educator's Association, the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
He holds a Bachelor of Music in music education and a Master of Music in choral conducting from the University of Southern Mississippi and a doctorate in music education from the University of Memphis.
