Local Educational Talent Search Students Attend S.T.E.A.M Camp
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Seventh and eighth grade students from Decatur, Gentry, Lincoln, Rogers, and Springdale schools will attend a S.T.E.A.M camp to explore their science, technology, engineering, arts, and math skills.
The students are all members of the University of Arkansas Education Talent Search program, which is hosting the camp in collaboration with Nerdies and the Mark Miller Art Studio.
The camp will be held on Saturday, June 20 and is designed to highlight elements of the fields the students can study in college. The students will be creating Rube Goldberg machines to showcase their voices and messages for the future.
Educational Talent Search is a federally-funded “TRIO” program within the Office of Diversity Affairs at the U of A. The program provides a full spectrum of services to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The University of Arkansas has three Talent Search grants from the U.S. Department of Education, serving 40 target schools. The U of A Talent Search programs most recently reported that its students have an 87 percent rate of enrolling in college.
