University music department professor to present a paper and play a recital in Athens, Greece

Lia Uribe, assistant professor of bassoon at the University of Arkansas, will be in Athens, Greece, this week at the 18th annual Mediterranean Studies Association's International Congress, to be held at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, May 27-30.

On Thursday, May 28, she will present the paper "In Search of New Repertoire: Moises Bertran Ventejo, Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano Interpreted," an analysis of Bertran Ventejo's style and his contribution to the double reed ensemble repertoire.

Aditionally, on Friday, May 29, Uribe will be performing a bassoon and piano recital at the Athenaeum International Cultural Centre, accompanied by Maestro Kostis Protopapas, who is the artistic director of Tulsa Opera. This recital is sponsored by the Honorary Consulate of Colombia in Athens. The repertoire will be centered on Hispanic and Latin-American composers.
