Annual Juneteenth Celebration Seeks Volunteers, Sponsors and Exhibitors
Attendees at last year's NWA Juneteenth Celebration enjoy live entertainment at Springdale's Murphy Park.
The 18th annual Northwest Arkansas Juneteenth Celebration will be held Saturday, June 13, at Murphy Park in Springdale. The event, which commemorates the anniversary of African American emancipation, is expected to attract over 1,000 attendees.
Join in this year's celebration by participating as a volunteer, exhibitor or sponsor. Always an educational, informational and celebratory day, a party this big relies on the support of community members to honor the traditions of Juneteenth and to gather together families from across Northwest Arkansas.
The University of Arkansas, U of A African-American Resource Group, Springdale Parks and Recreation and the Juneteenth Planning Committee create a day filled with an old-fashioned cookout, silent auction to benefit student book scholarships, musical entertainment, plus games, activities, snacks and educational programming for children, and even free swimming that evening at Springdale Aquatic Center. This year's event will also provide a Health Fair with free medical and dental screenings.
Juneteenth celebrates African American freedom and achievement with a strong emphasis on scholarships, responsible community citizenship, and continuous self-development and respect for all cultures. Register online to be a part of this year's celebration, or contact the Juneteenth Planning Committee co-chairs, Danielle Wood or J'onnelle Colbert-Diaz, at aarg@uark.edu.
