University Recreation recently purchased a "portable boundary system" to be used indoors at the HPER Building. The system of vinyl-covered foam panels will give UREC the ability to create an enclosed area on a basketball court for futsal and other recreational activities.

Futsal is a variant of soccer that is played indoors on a hard court surface. The game is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Futsal is played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular soccer ball due to the surface of the playing field.

"We are excited to start offering futsal as an informal sport. The students have been asking for it for a very long time." said Alex Rich, UREC assistant director for facilities.

UREC will have the equipment set up from April 14-16, in HPER in Gym 4. Play is open to all UREC members during normal operating hours. Future futsal play days will be announced on urec.uark.edu. For more information, contact Alex Rich at alexrich@uark.edu.
