This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: March 13-20
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host several music performances, two art exhibitions, two film screenings, a museum tour and a poetry reading this week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.
The Tournées Film Festival: French Films on Campus presents Quai d'Orsay/The French Minister (dir. Bertrand Tavernier, France 2013) at 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, in Ozark Hall room 26.
Also on Friday, the University of Arkansas Voice Studio of Moon-Sook Park will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. in The Fine Arts Center's Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Aaron Colley, euphonium, and Kristy Mezines, piano, will give a recital at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Three recitals will be given Sunday, March 15, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. Austin Jay will conduct at 2 p.m.; Alex Grisos, trumpet, will perform at 3:30 p.m.; and Hannah Craig, flute, will perform at 8 p.m.
What's Left Over, an exhibition by Bryanna Jaramillo, will open at 9 a.m. Monday, March 16, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The exhibit will run until Monday, March 27. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
Boston Mountain Brassworks will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Guest artist Andrew Campbell, piano, will be joined by Lia Uribe, bassoon, and Theresa Delaplain, oboe, for a performance at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Nadi Cinema presents Maqbool (dir. Vishal Bhardwaj, India 2004) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, in Hembree Auditorium in the Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences building room 107E.
The University Symphony Orchestra and University Opera will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, and Thursday, March 19, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
A reception in conjunction with Bryanna Jaramillo's What's Left Over exhibition will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery.
Also on Thursday, guest artist Dave Smith will present a reading of his work at 7 p.m. in the J.B. Hunt Transport Services Center for Academic Excellence room 144.
At the same time, the University of Arkansas Museum Collections will hold an open house and tour at the Arkansas Archeological Survey building located at 2475 N. Hatch Ave.
sUgAR, the University of Arkansas student art gallery, continues an exhibit of artwork by the Kansas State University graduate and post-baccalaureate students until Thursday, March 19. sUgAR is located at 1 E. Center Street in downtown Fayetteville, and gallery hours are Monday and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. This is the second stage of an exhibition exchange between the ceramics students at the University of Arkansas and those at Kansas State University.
