Candidates for Computer Science and Computer Engineering Department Head Position Visit Campus

Three candidates for the position of head of the Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering and holder of the Rodger Kline Leadership Endowed Chair in the College of Engineering will give presentations on campus in February, and the campus community is invited to attend.

Prabir Battacharya will give a presentation on Monday, Feb. 2 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Hunt Center, room 144.

Battacharya is currently a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computing systems at the University of Cincinnati. He served as chair of this department from 2009-2012.

Battacharya’s previous positions include professor and Canada Research Chair, Tier 1, at Concordia University in Montreal Canada; professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; associate professor at the University of Delhi in India and assistant professor at Kuwait University. He was also a principal scientist and group leader at the Panasonic Information and Networking Technologies Laboratory in Princeton, New Jersey. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Delhi in India and a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Oxford in England.

Xiaoqing “Frank” Liu will give a presentation on Thursday, Feb. 5, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Hunt Center, room 144.

Liu is currently a professor and associate department chair for graduate studies and external affairs in the Department of Computer Science at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. He served as interim computer science department chair in 2013.

Liu has also served as the Visiting Lotus Scholar Chair Professor at Hunan University of Science and Technology in China. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the National University of Defense Technology in Changsha, China, a master’s degree in computer science from Southeast University in Nanjing, China, and a doctorate in computer science from Texas A&M University.

Sushil Prasad will give a presentation on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Hunt Center, room 144.

Prasad is currently a professor of computer science at Georgia State University. He has worked as a software architecture consultant at the Institute for Customer Relationship Management in Atlanta.

Prasad holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, India, a master’s degree in computer science from Washington State University, and a doctorate in computer science from the University of Central Florida.
