Department of Art Instructors Speak at State of the Art Events at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Linda Lopez and John C. Kelley will participate in separate events in conjunction with State of the Art Discovering American Art Now at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Linda Lopez will present an Art Talk on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 5 p.m. discussing her unusual approach to creating narrative and character out of abstraction. This event is free and no registration is required.

As part of Electric Art Forum, John C. Kelley will moderate the panel discussion Conduits on Saturday, January 17, at 3 p.m. discussing use of technology and machines to bring communities and people together in reflecting on past, present, and future issues. This event is free with online registration.

Linda Lopez (b. 1981 Visalia, California) received a B.F.A. in ceramics and B.A. in art education from California State University of Chico. She received an M.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Lopez has exhibited her work in New Zealand and throughout the United States including Robischon Gallery, Denver; Jane Hartsook Gallery at Greenwich House Pottery, New York; The Clay Studio, Philadelphia and the Center for Emerging Visual Artists, Philadelphia. She has been an artist in residence at The Clay Studio and the Archie Bray Foundation. Currently, Lopez is included in the State of the Art Exhibition at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

John C. Kelley holds a B.F.A. from Baylor University and an M.F.A. from the University of Arkansas. John works primarily in time-based media such as sound and video and teaches courses in Drawing, Visual Design and Time-based Media. He has been professionally active in the music and film industries, writing, producing and recording original music for award winning feature-length films. His own short art films and videos have been screened at international film festivals, in collaborative performances in concert halls and in galleries nationally.
