Arkansas Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi Celebrates 100 Years With Initiation

The Arkansas Alpha chapter of Tau Beta Pi honored the chapter’s 100 year anniversary on Dec. 14, 2014 by holding an initiation ceremony for the newest class of members. The chapter initiated the following 10 undergraduate members who met the society’s requirements: Jesus Cervantes, John “Kenny” George, Samuel Jenkins, Stefan McCall, Ryley McMurtry, Rolando Morales, Zach Sabey, Colin Small, Seth Washispack, and Mason Young.

In addition to the student initiates, the chapter honored Kevin D. Hall, who serves as the Civil Engineering Department head, 21st Century Leadership Chair in Civil Engineering, and executive director of the Mack-Blackwell Rural Transportation Center. Hall was recognized for his service to the engineering profession and continued efforts to educate future engineers. His outstanding achievements have been recognized by the society through his election for membership to the Arkansas Alpha chapter.

Tau Beta Pi is the oldest engineering honor society in the United States, and the second oldest Greek letter honor society to Phi Beta Kappa in the liberal arts. Tau Beta Pi’s public motto of “Integrity and Excellence in Engineering” serves as the founding principle for the organization. Currently, there are 248 active chapters of which Arkansas Alpha is the 28th oldest. The Arkansas Alpha chapter was founded on Dec. 14, 1914. The chapter is active in community service projects and promoting leadership in all disciplines of engineering.
