BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Peter MacKeith will present a lecture titled “Aalto’s Identities” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, in the Great Hall at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville. This lecture is part of the museum’s Architecture Speaker Series.

In his lecture, MacKeith will present the life and work of Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, one of the 20th century’s canonical figures in architecture and design, through multiple lenses: biography, building analysis and cultural appraisal.

MacKeith joined the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas as dean and professor of architecture in July 2014.

A nationally recognized design educator, he was previously associate dean and professor of architecture at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, from 1999-2014. Before joining the Sam Fox School, MacKeith was the director of the Master of Architecture – International Program at the Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University) in Finland. He previously held faculty appointments in architecture at the University of Virginia, the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, and Yale University in architectural design, history and theory.

MacKeith previously served on the Fay Jones School’s Professional Advisory Board. Since 1990, MacKeith has worked as a liaison between the architectural cultures of the United States and the Nordic nations, especially Finland, in design practice, research, publication, education and exhibition.

Admission to this lecture is free for museum members and $10 for non-members. Registration is available online or by calling the museum’s Guest Services at 479-657-2335.
