RazorBag Distribution Begins for @ArkRazorbacks
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Athletics Department is dedicated to the health and well-being of its student-athletes and took another step in demonstrating that commitment rolling out the RazorBag fueling program recently.
In response to recent NCAA legislation that allows, for the first time, both scholarship student-athletes and walk-ons to receive unlimited meals and snacks “incidental to participation,” the Razorbacks Athletics Department created a program that combines healthy snacks, nutrition information and convenience for its approximately 460 student-athletes competing in 19 sports.
“Our student-athletes and coaches were involved in developing these enhancements, and our student-athletes especially wanted a variety of choices and convenience,” said Julie Cromer, senior associate athletics director for administration and sports programs. “We understand our student-athletes lead busy lives and that healthy fueling needs to be convenient, so we’re providing ‘grab-and-go’ options that meet their needs. We’re also giving them the opportunity to choose the healthy snacks they want to eat to fuel their demanding academic and athletic schedules.”
The RazorBag program provides student-athletes with a tote filled with snacks designed to last through the week. Student-athletes return the reusable totes the following week, picking up their next snack bag. All of the snacks are individually packaged so that student-athletes could take something from the tote, drop it in their book bag and have a healthy choice fueling option prior to class or practice.
“We are not trying to buy our student-athletes groceries or provide unlimited meals,” Cromer said. “The goal of the RazorBag program is to fill the gaps in fueling and assist with recovery. We are fueling our student-athletes, not feeding them.”
The RazorBag program is funded in part by some of the future Southeastern Conference revenue distribution funds from the creation of the SEC Network.
