Survivors' Chat Group to Start for the Fall 2014 Semester

STAR Central will hold a weekly Survivors’ Chat Group for students who have experienced sexual assault or intimate-partner violence.

After a sexual assault, it is not uncommon to feel alone and that no one could possibly understand. However, sexual violence is more common than people realize. Sometimes talking with others who have had similar experiences and feelings can be very helpful.

The Survivors' Chat Group provides a psycho-educational approach through peer-based support and facilitated group discussion with a professional advocate. The group is not a therapy group. All participants agree to and sign a confidentiality statement.

The group will meet on Tuesdays at 3 p.m. for the remainder of the semester. There is no charge for participating with this group. Currently, the group is limited to women. However, if men are in need of help, they should contact STAR Central about potential options.

For more information about joining the group and details of the group location, please contact STAR Central at survivor@uark.edu. For a general list of on and off campus resources, please visit http://respect.uark.edu/resources
