Expert in Ethics, Economics Joins Department of Philosophy

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Warren Herold has joined the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences Department of Philosophy as an assistant professor. He comes to the University of Arkansas from the University of Michigan.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. Herold to the Department of Philosophy,” said Ed Minar, professor of philosophy and chair of the department. “He specializes in ethics, moral psychology and the history of ethics and will be a great addition to our faculty.”

Herold’s research interests also include social and political philosophy and the philosophy of economics. He has taught courses in bioethics, the philosophy of religion and moral and political philosophy.

“Dr. Herold’s teaching background is one of the things that really stood out to us,” said Todd Shields, dean of Fulbright College. “While at Michigan, he was instrumental in setting up a new major called philosophy, politics, and economics and won the Rackham Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award.”

“I am looking forward to being part of a department that offers such a broad range of courses,” said Herold. “The university’s and Fulbright College’s commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to big questions is a good fit for someone with wide academic interests.”

Herold received a Bachelor of Arts (Phi Beta Kappa) in economics and environmental studies and a Bachelor of Music in music history from Oberlin College. He also holds a Master of Arts in philosophy and a Master of Science in environmental and resource economics from University College London and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Michigan.
