FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas Air Force ROTC Detachment 030, also known as the ThunderHawgs, ranked #1 in fitness and academics out of 36 Air Force ROTC detachments in the southwest region. Nationally, the ThunderHawgs ranked fourth in academics and eighth in fitness among 145 detachments, with the combined fitness and academic scores earning them the rank of No. 2 overall.

“University of Arkansas Air Force ROTC remains committed to developing high-quality leaders within one of the most competitive detachments in the nation,” said Lt. Col. Buster McCall. “These results by our cadets will only enhance our recruiting effort to attract the best candidates out of high school and help grow our program even stronger than it is.”

The rankings, released earlier this month, are based on the last physical training tests for all of the cadets, whether at the semester end or during Field Training at Maxwell Air Force Base, as well as the cumulative grade point average of the cadet wing following the spring 2014 semester.

The Air Force ROTC program works to produce better leaders through hands-on experience, personal mentorship, and constant reinforcement to always strive for ‘Excellence in All We Do.’
