Army ROTC Razorback Brigade Commissions 11 Officers

Brigadier General Dwayne R. Edwards, alumnus of the University of Arkansas, addressed the newest second lieutenants of the U.S. Army.

The Army ROTC Razorback Brigade of the University of Arkansas commissioned 10 cadets in a ceremony Friday afternoon, May 9, here on campus and later that evening, another cadet in a separate ceremony at John Brown University, for a total of 11 cadets commissioned to the rank of second lieutenant.

The following is the list of those who commissioned, their degree, as well as their branches and components in the U.S. Army:

• Stuart Allgood – Degree:  Political Science, Anthropology and History; Branch:  Active Duty Signal Corps with a Branch Detail of Armor Corps
• Mark E. Baker – Degree:  History; Branch:  Active Duty Infantry Corps
• Charles D. Boykin – Degree:  Criminal Justice; Branch:  Active Duty Military Police Corps
• Daniel W. Clark – Degree:  Criminal Justice; Branch:  Active Duty Signal Corps with a Branch Detail of Armor Corps
• Timothy S. Edgren – Graduate of John Brown University - Degree: Philosophy; Branch: Active Duty Infantry Corps
• Christian "Taylor" Libby – Degree: Business Economics; Branch: Army Reserve Finance Corps
• Carter H. Londagin – Degree:  Supply Chain Management; Branch: Army Reserve Transportation Corps
• Alex M. Miller – Degree: Criminal Justice; Branch: Arkansas Army National Guard Transportation Corps
• Brent F. Shatswell – Degree: Communications; Branch: Active Duty Signal Corps
• Alexandria L. Slay – Degree:  Nursing; Branch: Active Duty Nurse Corps
• Walt D. Wright – Degree: International Relations; Branch: Active Duty Military Intelligence Corps with a Branch Detail of Infantry Corps

Lt. Col. Charles A. Pudil, II, professor of military science at the Razorback Brigade, swore in all but one of the new commissionees just before the Fayetteville ceremony, where Brig. Gen. Dwayne R. Edwards, alumnus of the University of Arkansas, addressed the newly commissioned officers, encouraging them to be the best leaders they can be. Danny Pugh, vice provost for student affairs, gave each of the commissionees the Chancellor's Challenge Coin, which is given to military veterans who are alumni of the University of Arkansas. The colonel and general then handed the commissioning certificates to the new Lieutenants. After the ceremony, the newly commissioned officers then were pinned and given their first salutes by people of their choosing.  

Later that evening, Second Lt. Timothy S. Edgren was sworn in by his father, Col. (Retired) Mark G. Edgren at John Brown University. He was saluted by Master Sgt. Norman D. Harvey, senior military instructor at the Razorback Brigade, and pinned by his family.

The cadre and staff of the Razorback Brigade are very proud of their newly commissioned second lieutenants. These young officers have worked very hard and have earned their title.
