This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: April 18-25

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will feature concerts, lectures, recitals, art exhibitions and a Shakespeare play in this week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.

Jason Forte will give a piano recital at 6 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Friday, Catalina Barraza will give a violin recital at 8 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The department of drama will present As You Like It at 8 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the University Theatre. The show will continue until Sunday, April 27.

The Life You’ve Seen: The Search for Feminine Identity Ruined My Life, an exhibition by Cambry Lace Pierce will close Friday, April 18. The exhibit may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A reception will follow at 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Gallery.

The Suzuki Music School will give a student recital at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, April 19, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later in Stella Boyle Smith, Amy Mayes will give a clarinet recital at 2:30 p.m.

The voice class of instructor Hyeon-Min Jang will give a recital at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 20, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Sunday, Alfredo Maruri will give a saxophone recital at 6 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later in Stella Boyle Smith, Blake Capps give a composer recital featuring Heather Werschky and Jackson Jones at 8 p.m.

Chere, an exhibition by Wilson Borja will open Monday, April 21, and continue in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The show will close with a reception at 5 p.m. Friday, April 25.

Also on Monday, Evan Johnson will present a trombone recital at 6 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later on Monday, guest artists Elizabeth Shuhan (flute), Alex Shuhan (French horn) and Siu Yan Luk (piano) will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Hillside Auditorium room 202.

At the same time, the University of Arkansas Jazz Ensemble will give its spring concert in the Arkansas Union Theater.

The students in professor Jura Margulis’s piano studio will give a recital at 8 p.m. Monday in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert.

Richard Bobo will give a contrabassoon recital at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Tuesday, visiting artist Quintin Rivera-Toro will give a lecture at 5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center room 213.

Jackson Jones will give a trombone recital at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Wednesday in Stella Boyle Smith, the University of Arkansas Latin Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m.

Visiting artist Julia Haft-Candell will demonstrate ceramic building techniques at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 24, in the ceramics studio. She will present her work in a lecture at 5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center room 213 of.

Also on Thursday, the University of Arkansas Opera Theatre will perform at 6:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later on Thursday, Jacob Lee will give a clarinet recital at 7 p.m. in the Arkansas Union Theatre.

Diego Plata will give a flute recital featuring visiting instructor Tomoko Kashiwagi at 6 p.m. Friday, April 25, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
