ESL Workshop to Focus on Effective Listening and Speaking Instruction
A University of Arkansas workshop and seminar May 3 offers teachers information on helping English language learners become more successful listeners and speakers.
The event is sponsored by the curriculum and instruction department in the College of Education and Health Professions and Educational Testing Service. It is free but RSVP is required. Teachers who RSVP by calling 479-575-7244 or emailing jamos@uark.edu by April 20 will receive free lunch. The workshop will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Reynolds Center Auditorium on campus.
This workshop and seminar is intended for K-12 pre- and in-service teachers in all contexts and for all learner levels.
Presenters will be Larry Vandergrift, a retired professor of the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, University of Ottawa, Canada, and Marsha Chan, professor of ESL at Mission College, Santa Clara, Calif., and an author-publisher at Sunburst Media. Vandergrift’s presentation is titled “Learning to Listen; Listening to Learn,” and Chan’s presentation is titled “Tools and Techniques for Developing ELL Listening and Speaking.”
Organizers are Hayriye Kayi-Aydar, assistant professor of TESOL, and Erin Casey, clinical assistant professor of childhood education. More information is available on the curriculum and instruction website.
