Traffic and Parking to Be Affected During Daytime Hours by Work on Arkansas Avenue

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sections of the southbound lane of Arkansas Avenue, between Maple and Dickson Streets, will be closed starting Monday, March 24. Flintco Construction crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, preparing the median area of Arkansas Avenue for the planting of 24-foot-tall trees along the entire length of the median. A total of 28 trees will be planted.

Some parking spots along the west side of Arkansas Ave. will be unavailable at times due to the median work, but these spots will be clearly marked. Two spots on the east side of Arkansas Ave. will be unavailable for approximately two days this week, but these spots will also be clearly marked.

Detour signs will be posted when a section of the south bound lane is closed during work hours and flaggers will be present to direct both through traffic and traffic needing available metered parking spaces.

“We apologize for any inconvenience,” said Mike Johnson, associate vice chancellor for facilities. “Tree planting needs to be done during specific periods of the year for the greatest success.”

The entire project is scheduled to be finished by April 25.
