'Fulbright Career Series' Continues to Assist Fulbright Students
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will continue to host a Fulbright College Career Series designed to aid students in becoming more competitive candidates for employment and graduate school. The series began Tuesday, Feb. 4, and will continue until Thursday, April 10, with two more career fairs and a workshop.
The series’ largest event, UA Career Fair for All Majors, hosted 57 employers from various fields such as helping professions, law enforcement, sales and leadership, agriculture and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). More than 250 students attended the fair to meet recruiters looking for potential employees and interns.
“Several employers commented that the students they met with at the career fair had the skills and experiences they were looking for, looked professional and represented a wide range of majors,” said Erica Estes, director of employee relations for Fulbright College. “The employers were very enthusiastic about having this opportunity to talk with students of all majors about their organizations and the jobs and internships they needed to fill. We had several companies interview and offer positions to students for jobs and internships the day after.”
A Science, Technology, Engineering, Math Career Fair will be held 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at the Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium-East Indoor Club. The fair is for juniors, seniors and graduate students to meet potential employers looking for interns and employees in the science and mathematics fields. There are 100 companies registered to attend, many of which are looking for students studying geosciences, mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology.
A Pre-Professional Workshop will be held 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in the Arkansas Union room 507. The event is designed for all students to learn tips for applying to pre-health or pre-law programs.
The final event of the series will be an Education Career Fair. It will be held 3-7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the Arkansas Union Alltel Ballroom. Graduating students are invited to meet prospective employers for teaching positions with local, in-state or out-of-state schools.
Previous events in the series included the Resume Review Event and Exploring UA Majors and Minor Fair. The resume review served 95 students by reviewing resumes in preparation for career fairs and applications. The majors and minors fair gave students an opportunity to gather information about University of Arkansas academic departments to decide on a major, a second major or a minor.
The Resume Workshop and Interview Workshop were canceled due to inclement weather.
