IT Services Names Elon Turner Director of Network Operations

IT Services announces that Elon Turner, formerly a senior network engineer in the Network Engineering Team, has been promoted to director of network operations and reports directly to David Bruce, the associate CIO for campus networks.

In his new position, Turner will oversee Network Operations, the team charged with installing and operating the campus wired and wireless networks. He will continue to manage workflow for network projects with other colleges and departments, assist in the campus network design and architecture, evaluate products, and support the associate CIO for campus networks.

Turner started working for the University of Arkansas in 2008 as a Layer 2 network engineer. After being promoted to senior network engineer, Turner managed the $1.5 million annual network budget for internal and external projects and implemented the campus Academic Research Infrastructure network, funded by the National Science Foundation. He also designed and implemented new building networks and coordinated efforts with Facilities Management for major campus construction projects in 2013.

As the new director of network operations, Turner’s goals include increasing communication between the network team and the campus community, maintaining campus network stability while providing new features, and decreasing wait time for users requesting support.
