This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Feb. 14-21

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will feature concerts, lectures, art exhibitions and a University Theatre production in the coming week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these on-campus and off-campus events in the visual and performing arts.

Floating Lines, an interdisciplinary student art exhibition, will close Friday, Feb. 14. It has been on display since January 21 in the Anna Kittrell Art Gallery in the Arkansas Union. The exhibit is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

The Suzuki Music School will present a student recital at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The University of Arkansas Wind Ensemble will preform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at the Alma Performing Arts Center in Alma.

Also on Monday at 7:30, Moon-Sook Park, assistant professor of voice, will give a recital in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Guest artist Susan Lichtman will give a lecture at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center.

Also on Thursday, the University of Arkansas Women’s Chorus and Concert Choir will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Jennifer Garrison will give a voice recital at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The drama department’s production of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s musical Spring Awakening will open at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the University Theatre. Tickets are available in the Fine Arts Center box office and are $3 for University of Arkansas students with valid student identification, $14 for seniors and university faculty and staff, $16 for adults  and $7 for children and non-UA students. Tickets may also be purchased online at http://drama.uark.edu. The show will close March 2. This production is intended for mature audiences only.

New Faculty Exhibition: Stephanie Pierce and Cynthia Nourse Thompson continues until Sunday, Feb. 23, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Gray Zone, an exhibit by guest artist Marat Paransky, will continue until Saturday, March 1, at the Bottle Rocket Gallery in Fayetteville.

Divide Light: The Operatic Performance Costumes of Lesley Dill Exhibition continues until Sunday, April 13, in the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery at the Walton Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, and one hour prior to most Walton Arts Center performances.
