This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Jan. 17-24

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will feature concerts, lectures, art exhibitions and film in the coming week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.

Rachel Phillippe will perform a violin recital at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Andrew Chu will perform a violin recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

An exhibit of letterpress work by Peter Kruty Editions and works by visual design students and visiting associate professor David Chioffi will open Monday, Jan. 20, in the Fine Arts Center hallway exhibition cases.

New Faculty Exhibition: Stephanie Pierce and Cynthia Nourse Thompson will open Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Jura Margulis, the McAllister Professor of Piano, will give a recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Guest scholar Nicole Cotton will give a lecture about her experiences as programming and production manager at Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Disney Hall, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Wednesday, Nadi Cinema will host a screening of Voice of My Father (dir. Orhan Eskikoy and Zeynel Dogan, Turkey, 2012) at 7 p.m. in Mullins Library, room 104.

Guest artist Cole Closser, cartoonist and graduate of the master of fine arts program at the Center for Cartoon Studies, will speak at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center. Closser will also give a workshop at noon Friday, Jan. 24, in the printmaking studio, room 207 of the Fine Arts Center.

Also on Thursday, the University of Arkansas Horn Choir will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
