FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Many of the performances, exhibitions and events scheduled for last week were canceled due to inclement weather, but some have been rescheduled for this week. The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences invites students, faculty, staff and friends to attend the following on-campus and off-campus events in the visual and performing arts.

The department of art’s MFA Student Exhibit, a group exhibition by students pursuing a master of fine arts, will open with a reception at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at sUgAR, the university’s student art gallery. The gallery will also open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. sUgAR is located on the basement level of One East Square Plaza in Fayetteville. The exhibition was originally scheduled for Dec. 6 and 7.

Also on Friday, students from the department of music will present Hope after Haiyan, a benefit concert for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, at 6:30 p.m. in Old Main’s Giffels Auditorium. Tickets to the concert will be available at the door. The suggested donation for tickets is $5 for students and $10 for non-students. This event was originally scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 8.

The department of music outreach program will present its fall concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The department of art and the ceramics area will hold the first annual Winter Holiday Sale and Open Studio Event from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the ceramics studio at 326 Eastern Ave. in Fayetteville.

Also on Saturday, Nathan Cunningham will give a trumpet recital at 2:30 p.m. and Dylan Gililland will give a trumpet recital at 3:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. These events were originally scheduled for Dec. 8 and 7, respectively.

sUgAR will host the department of art’s Senior Capstone Exhibit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.

The University of Arkansas 2013 Fall Commencement Ceremony begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, in Barnhill Arena. Boston Mountain Brassworks, the university’s faculty brass quintet, will perform a pre-ceremony concert at 8:30 a.m. 

Life/Lines, as student produced art exhibit hosted by University Programs continues until Friday, Jan. 10, in the Anne Kittrell Art Gallery. The exhibit features artwork by students in Contemporary Issues in Painting taught by Stephanie Pierce, assistant professor of art. The gallery is pen from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located on the fourth floor of the Arkansas Union. Students must show university ID for entrance.
