U of A Law Student Wins National Student of the Year Award
Donald Ung, a second-year law student at the University of Arkansas School of Law, was awarded the National Student of the Year Award at the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association Conference in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 15, 2013. This national merit-based scholarship recognizes a law student who demonstrates substantial leadership in the community. Ung is the first School of Law student to win the National Student of the Year Award.
"We are so pleased to have one of our students receive national attention for his work," said Stacy Leeds, dean of the School of Law. "Donald is an exemplary leader both in the law school and in the larger community."
"I am honored to be the recipient of a national award that brings further recognition to the University of Arkansas School of Law," said Ung. "Faculty and staff from the law school like Deans Jim Miller, Rhonda Adams and Stacy Leeds create the support for students like me to succeed and contribute."
"Donald is very deserving of this national honor," stated Patricia Lee-Gulley, partner of Gordon & Rees, LLP and president of the Orange County Asian American Bar Association. "Through his film background from UCLA and legal training from the University of Arkansas School of Law, he has uniquely combined the two skills in contributing to several of the local bar associations."
The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association represents the interest of over 40,000 attorneys and 66 state and local bar associations. Its members include large firm lawyers, corporate counsel, solo practitioners, legal service and non-profit attorneys, and lawyers serving at all levels of government.
