Architect Eric Howeler to Present 'Signal to Noise' Lecture on Nov. 11

FAYETTEVILLE -- Eric Howeler will present a lecture titled "Signal to Noise" at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in Ken and Linda Sue Shollmier Hall, Room 250 of Vol Walker Hall, on the University of Arkansas campus, as part of the Fay Jones School of Architecture lecture series.

Born in Cali, Colombia, Howeler (AIA, LEED AP) received a Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters of Architecture from Cornell University. He is currently an assistant professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and principal at Howeler + Yoon Architecture/MY Studio in Boston.

Prior to forming Howeler + Yoon Architecture, he was a senior designer at Diller + Scofidio and an associate principal at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. He is the co-author of Expanded Practice, Howeler + Yoon Architecture/MY Studio (Princeton Architectural Press 2009) and author of Skyscraper: Vertical Now (Rizzoli/Universe Publishers in 2003).

Howeler + Yoon Architecture/MY Studio is a multidisciplinary practice, operating in the space between architecture, art, and landscape. They believe in an embodied experience of architecture, seeing media as material and its effects as palpable elements of architectural speculation. While their work lies at the intersection of the conceptual and the corporeal, they are committed to both the practice of and prospects for architecture. Engaged in projects of all scales, they are interested in the material realities and material effects of their work, testing interactions between their constructs and the larger public. The practice's multi-disciplinary projects include architecture, planning, interiors, installations, furniture, concept clothing and artist books. Howeler + Yoon Architecture's work is the subject of a recent monograph entitled Expanded Practice, Howeler + Yoon Architecture/MY Studio, published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2009.

Awarded the Audi Urban Future Award in 2012, the Architecture League's Emerging Voices award and Architectural Record's Design Vanguard in 2007, the firm's projects have been exhibited and published widely. Their work has been on exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the Institut Valencia d'Art Modern, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and the National Art Center in Tokyo, Japan. Their projects have been published and reviewed in Architect magazine, Architectural Record, Domus, Residential Architect, Surface, The Village Voice, Interior Design magazine, Architectural Lighting, I.D. magazine, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and The Financial Times. They have lectured about their work widely both nationally and internationally.
